Here’s a little poem I wrote one year ago, after completing an Intensive Outpatient Program for major depression (more on that later). It’s a simple ditty, but feels apt once again.
We also have an opportunity to use Thanksgiving literally as a reminder to give thanks. There’s been a lot of talk, since Covid especially, of practicing gratitude. A year ago, in the throes of a depression and eager to try any solution, I tested out this practice.
Last night, we completed Lady and the Tramp. I was a bit surprised that a warning message popped up before the movie started, lightly suggesting that there was outdated material that doesn’t reflect Disney’s values today…
Suddenly, this massive amount of stuff I’ve been carrying fell away like the ice melting in the Arctic. Suddenly I knew exactly what I was and what was important to me.
Travel is an experience that many people are drawn to, offering great benefits to our personal development. But what if those benefits can be gained tangentially? Can we travel without traveling? This may be the only option for many people, due to reasons of money, mobility, health, or responsibilities such as work or children. I’ve been experimenting and have found a few techniques to scratch that travel itch.
